Amazing Sunday

Now that almost all my family and friends have left after the wedding, I've had a chance to have a proper Mummy and Cal day, just the two of us, doing our thang. And it's been a blast.
Amazing things that happened in chronological order:
Number 1. We went to our first baby swimming class in Amsterdam. Despite having only been in a pool once before, he looked right at home lolling lazily on his back like a tubby little barrel. He loved the singing and swooshing about in the water, he was fine with the splashing, didn't mind the dunking part and handled being called Carl, Kyle and Cul by the teacher with true grace. His demeanor elicited comments from several other mums such as, 'whoa, he is so relaxed!' 'his first time? you must have a very big bath at home!' (we don't have one at all), and 'um, I think he may be going to sleep.' And with 38 degree water that I could have spent all day in, we'll definitely be back.
Number 2. When we arrived home from the pool I pulled up next to the sign post out the front of our house where we park the bakfiets/ bucket bike and whilst trying to move another bike out of the way, just let go of the bakfiets and it tipped right over onto its side with Cal in it! I screamed and rushed to pick the bike up, and the amazing bit is that Cal, tucked safely into his maxi-cosi, didn't even wake up. He raised an eyebrow and snuggled right back down into his post-swim coma. Phew.
Number 3. Now this is a big one in the amaze-balls stakes. Cal drank from a bottle. Praise the effing lord. He's now on one meal of solids a day and if we can get him chowing down happily on a few bottles a day, I may be able to take the few days of out-of-home work next month that I've said yes to.
So all in all an amazing Sunday, and all this before midday! Happy mum.

  1. Hi Emma, baby swimming experience sounds great, where did you go to? I don't know if all the places offering baby swimming have so warm water?
    Thanks! :)

  2. Hi Sharona, the Mercator Sport Plaza pool in West has a Therapy pool especially for baby swimming and I think it's the warmest pool in Amsterdam - it's like being in a jacuzzi!
