Almost One
It's been go, go, go this week for us. I've had a few of days at my old company, which I love, and David has been busy with shooting and post. Cal had a couple days at creche and a day with his Opa - their first, just the two of them. I arrived home at 6pm to a fed and happy baby and Opa relaxing with beer in hand, like a pro. I often meet expats who are parenting away from family and am chuffed that we have Hans and Nicky close by to help out, and hang out with.
For David and I half the fun of having a baby is sharing it with our parents. I can't wait to see mine next month and show them how Cal is getting along. Last time they saw him he was about five months old and a bit like a cheerful retiree, smiling gummily, content to watch the world go by. He'll be one by the time we arrive (I'm planning his one and one month birthday for when we're there) and he's really emerging from that fuzzy cocoon of babyness. He protests heartily if you take a cracker from him, waves at everything (helicopters, his reflection, people on the street) and loves kissing - he's yet to master the lip pucker so it's like some sort of wide-mouthed plankton feeder gliding in for a smooch.
I'm also pretty excited about taking David to Oz for the first time in just over a month. We have five days in the city centre of Sydney, a week in a beautiful house on the beach in Jervis bay (a few hours south of Sydney) and then another week in an apartment on the beach in Manly which is a 40 minute ferry ride from Sydney Harbour. I'm hoping that if the gods are kind Cal won't be teething or sick and with my mum around this trip will be more of holiday than Sri Lanka was. But before then another few weeks of go, go, go, which always makes a holiday more fun when you feel like you've really earned it, right?
