Around These Parts

Mum asked what words Cal is saying these days so here's a list of some new ones.

Oh-Pow (airplane)
Cooking
Cheese
Ah-Gas (my glasses)
Wah-wahs (crying)
Ididda (I did that!)
Doing? (What are you doing??)

and some Dutch ones too.

Ook (also)
Oh nee (oh no!)
and possibly doorrijden (keep going!)

He's also starting to join them up, E.g. Cooking-Daddy. The kid knows where his bread is buttered.

The talking is just The Best. Watching him figure language out is pure joy. And without the parental pain that watching him learning to crawl or walk involved. Sometime's there are moments of frustration when he can't figure out how to make one of his adult-slaves do something, but it's nothing compared to watching him faceplant, or get the deathwobbles half way down a wheelchair ramp.

As when he began walking, Cal already assumes he has fully mastered language. When we read a book of words he says the name of every word. Even if he doesn't know it he says, "Abblehgreble," confidently. Could you repeat that? "Abblehgreble." It's no wonder kids learn language so easily. They truly don't give a flying F about pronunciation, or whether it's even close to the correct word.

Oh, and he's also started making jokes. His first was about me. The other night we were in our new nano-bath and he was feeling my spiky un-shaven legs (it's winter here, ok). As he ran his hands up and down them he looked at me and smiled. "Cactus!" he said. He got me! I hope it's the first of many jokes at my expense to come. I love it!
Our tiny new bath. Happiness is!
