Not Tree Decorating Day

We were meant to do the Christmas tree today, but after a morning at Tun Fun and an afternoon at the pub, we didn't get round to it. It was such a fun day and I didn't want to spoil it.

The thing is Christmas tree decorating day is probably my favourite day of the year. David has come on board nicely with the ceremony of it all. He helps haul the tree home, DJs Christmas carols and keeps a fairly not-snarky face through it all, despite thinking it's a bit naff. One year he even hung mistletoe as a surprise. That year I was also pregnant and it was snowing. Christmas tree decorating days don't come better than that.

I know that Cal is going to LOVE Christmas tree decorating day. He's been primed for weeks on the tree, the guy called Santa, the presents. His eyes widen at the mention of decorating. I also know that Cal is going to totally eff it up for me. There's going to be broken baubles, tipped over trees, ripped wrapping paper. Not touching 45 new toys hanging on a tree, that is suddenly inside the house, is going to blow his baby-mind.

It's going to take all my zen-reserves to let this one go. This year in the place of egg-shell glass baubles, endless chocolate wreaths and perfectly wrapped gifts - that stay that way for weeks at the foot of the tree - there will have to be childlike wonder and the spirit of Christmas instead <eyeroll>.
