Way back when we didn't have a baby, when getting married hadn't even been mentioned, and when we were brand new and still a bit nervous around each other, David and I went on our honeymoon to Mexico. We'd only been dating 6 months and it was our first trip away together. We always refer to it as our honeymoon, cause holidays don't come more romantic than that. It was just the two of us, a little red car and a whole lot of fish tacos. This week with jobs and babies and bills and a little bit of worry about the future, it was wonderful to get lost in these photos for an hour. We flew into Mexcio city and then hired a car for the way-longer-than-expected drive to the Pacific coast. From there we visited a few little surf towns on the coast. David would surf for a few hours every day and I went through my supply of books way faster than expected. For a few days there I was bored out of my brain, then we moved to a new town and took a room in a run-down little hut solely because the bookshelf in the corner was jammed full of novels that other travelers had left behind. It was there that I developed an unhealthy and embarrassing taste for Nicholas Spark novels. (He's the guy that wrote The Notebook - that film with Ryan Gosling at his dishiest). After we wound our way down to Acapulco we took the fast road back up to Mexico city and checked into a great boutique hotel called Condessa, where we washed off the sea salt and went to town with indulgences we'd missed living in beach huts for the past two weeks. We ordered room service, took a million rainshowers, got massages and ate out again and again (we just couldn't get over how cheap good restaurants were in Mexico city). We hadn't planned on staying in any fancy hotels, but kind of just rolled into that one and after a long hot drive the thought of a big white bed and good food was too much to resist. We also made a great deal with the hotel and ended up paying way less than their advertised rate as they mustn't have been very full at the time. I'd totally recommend the hotel for any honeymooners out there, we're still talking about it. I think on one boozy, loved up night we promised we'd be back in five years. I hope so, but perhaps that's a little ambitious with a 3 year old.
