Snow Morning

This morning dawned cold and quiet. There's about as much snow as this time last year just before Cal was born, but the canal is probably still a few days away from freezing. There's a family of swans that we haven't seen in almost a year out the front fighting off half-hearted protests from coots. We think there's a gas leak coming from the canal wall beneath the waterline which might warm the water like a spring. When the water does freeze this spot is the last to ice over creating a little jacuzzi of birds swimming and splashing about on top of each other. Perhaps the swans remembered this from last year and are back for the warmer water.
