The Language Explosion
That's what it's called when toddlers get their talk on. It usually happens at 18 months, but seeing as Cal is a boy and bi-lingual, he's a little older. It involves constant mimicry and about 9 new words a day. It's fabulously exciting for everyone. He's also realised how impressed we are and often recites all the words he knows in a list just to show off.
I can also see the beginnings of frustration beginning as he realises that there's a level of language and comprehension he hasn't reached yet. His desires are more specific and he's constantly trying to figure out how to word them.
It also means his brain is firing on all cylinders and sleep has taken a nose-dive. He's waking up every few hours during the night to shout out all his favorite words. NOSE! BALL! EYES! TREE! MAMA! DADA! MILK! TOOTSIES!
