Autonomous Little Beings
This week Cal started his new kindy. As I've been working David has been taking him to his integration sessions and so far has been really impressed. We're new to the Montessori method, but feel the idea of creating autonomous little beings sits quite well with how we roll.
I like that all the children wear undies, not nappies and are encouraged to toilet train themselves from the time they can toddle to the toilet room. They also don't have cots, just a room of mattresses on the floor like a big teenage sleep-over (we'll see how that works for Cal, although he's a pretty happy daytime napper, so it shouldn't be a problem I think). The room also has a row of little sinks for the children to wash their dishes in after eating, which I think is just so fun. When David picked Cal up today after his first few hours on his own, they reported that he was very happy and had made his own sandwich for lunch!
