Hard Graft
Confession: We call Saturdays, "No fun Saturdays." It's the day we usually spend together as a family and it's always really hard and really long. Perhaps it's because the memories of our pre-kid Saturdays are still strong (they were so good - lots of food and drinking and downtime), or perhaps it's trying too hard to find something that suits the three of us after a long week that's exhausting. Whatever the case, we find them tough and it's often Cal's crappiest day of the week too with lots of Terrorism.
Like all three year olds Cal comes alive with the excitement of a special job or task and this afternoon David did a great job of getting him involved in their new herb garden. They weeded, dug, carried bricks and planted. I'm so happy he's having the experience of growing his own food, even if just parsley. I have a feeling that at some point in his childhood we'll probably end up back in an apartment so to see him running in and out as he likes and plucking leaves off his own basil plant is pretty cool to watch, even for a No Fun Saturday.
