Lacanau In July

On the excellent advice of some of David's surf friends, we spent 10 days in Lacanau, South-West France, in July. It's probably the closest we've got to a "good family vacation", by which I mean the kids are happy and there's enough to keep parents entertained as well. Beach for David, pools, friends and surfing for Cal, an adults-only 'Zen pool' for me and a cute enough town to explore close-by, and a shallow pool, soft-play, and arcade-games-room for Stella - it turns out she's really into shooting zombies.

The 2 hour flight to Bordeaux and 1 hour drive north to the little surf town were just right, the weather was 70% excellent, and the nature was everything I needed after this long shitty plague year indoors, in grey Amsterdam. There were big skies, lots of blue and green, ocean sunsets, tropical foliage, and the moon everywhere you looked. Very healing indeed.

The look says it all. Just one of the ice-creams-as-big-as-her-head

The wild and windy Atlantic

First ramble around town as the weather cleared after 4 rainy days

Same breed of fluffy blonde cuteness

Mini trampolines at the campsite

A bike rental morning that was enjoyed for aprox 24 mins before extreme whinging set in

Cal and Stella, Doris and Billie on Lacanau beach at the boulevard

French ice-cream serving sizes are a bit ridiculous

Painting rocks, shells and pinecones

Still too wiggly for restaurants, so homemade dinner on the deck works best

The 5 minute walk to the beach

Beautiful thistles...

Beautiful horizons...

Not as wild as Cal, prefers to paddle

And be carried everywhere

Morning surfs for David and his friends

Morning trips to the bakery on the campsite for the rest of us

Remko, Stella and Doris

Her first sunset into the water, and actually only one of the first that I've ever seen too as an east-coast girl

Would recommend

Absolutely, Daddy's girl

There it goes

As the moon rises

Burgers and bants with uncle Max

Barbara and Remko's cool set-up with blow-up corner couch

BBQ marshmallows

Mums on dishes. I mostly provided moral support. Ati did all the work.

Parker (so tired...) and Felix

Morning Fraggles/ Ferals

More beach days..

Ready for a surf lesson with Dad

Day at the lake with Max, Ati and the cousins

Some of us got a little rest on the holiday ;)
